Tyler Robinson, the man who shot Charlie Kirk, has been arrested. Since his arrest, it has come out that Robinson was an unusual individual who was involved in a romantic relationship with a male transgender sexual partner and participated in online chat groups that had very antisocial, leftist views. It would be easy to categorize him as an evil left-wing nutcase and hate him for what he did, but I don’t think it is as simple as that. I believe Charlie would want us to understand why this man committed his evil act, so that we can stop others who might be similarly motivated. Here is one theory to consider.
Looking at the blank expression in the eyes of Mr. Robinson and his partner, I believe I have seen that look before on the faces of a few kids in my community. When my children were in school, I observed a small number of their peers who just didn’t fit in. Maybe they were very overweight, socially awkward, on the autism spectrum, or had an alternative sexual identity. For whatever reason, they were different and were not accepted by their peers. Worse yet, these individuals were often the victims of bullying. You probably remember how hard high school was for you. Imagine what it would be like for someone who is a social outcast and forced to go through the teen school years ostracized and alone, while being picked on every day. It would be a lonely, terrible existence. I remember one teacher describing these kids as someone who was still looking for their tribe and hadn’t found it yet.
Some of them turn to the internet to find peers who will accept them. News reports indicate that the perpetrator was active in these kinds of chat groups, including one supporting transgenderism. His online friends may have been kids who faced a similar unhappy high school experience. It is possible that someone in their online community decided that, since Charlie Kirk was a conservative icon, killing Charlie would be a way to strike back against the bullying they faced in high school. They may have also disagreed with Charlie Kirk’s opposition to transgenderism and viewed Mr. Kirk as a threat. Whatever the motivations, Mr. Robinson’s online chat group may have encouraged him to commit the crime and may have been aware of what he was about to do. If there was a broader conspiracy involved, the FBI investigation will hopefully bring them all to justice.
Whatever the FBI finds, it won’t stop lonely kids from looking for friends online. You can see similar people every day, in every community in our country. These kids have a hole in their hearts that will be filled with something. It can be wholesome, positive things, or it can be the evil garbage found in the online dumpster. If you encounter one of these kids and are a Christian, invite the person to attend church with you. It won’t matter if he tells you he is a non-believer; ask him to come anyway. Tell him if nothing else, it is a warm place with free coffee, and he might make some new friends. It might end up bringing the man to Christ. That hole in his heart is going to be filled with something. Why not fill it with Jesus?
Trying to understand the man doesn’t mean I am attempting to excuse the terrible crime Mr. Robinson committed. I believe he did something evil and deserves to receive the death penalty for his actions. While his execution might make us feel better, there are many other individuals out there like Tyler Robinson. I believe Charlie Kirk would have tried to talk with them about their issues so he could understand and help in some way. When you say your prayers tonight, be sure to first pray for Charlie’s widow and children, but also pray for Tyler Robinson’s soul. That is the least we can do, and Charlie probably would have wanted it that way.

Tyler, the patsy, was arrested.
Too many lonely gunmen getting thru the security to believe anything else.
