I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it; we need budget reform. Yes, cuts. Deep cuts. But unfortunately, as anyone who’s worked in State government will tell you, cuts made within agencies are ALWAYS front line services cuts. Why? Make the “public” feel the pain. Encourage them to call their state legislators and demand full budget allocations!!! It’s a racket and until that’s changed, everything remains the same. Did you know as a State government employee you can be terminated for talking directly with your legislative representative about specific ways your agency can save the State money? Great system isn’t it?

The budget is a bi-partisan problem. I say throw out the 50 bums up for re-election. The people of Alaska would probaby come out ahead if we just drew names out of hat for our law makers.

I totally agree with you. The financial corruption in this state is staggering.

They've been robbing the permanent dividend fund for so long.... and getting away with it. As long as the capital remains in Juneau, Alaska and not in Anchorage this will continue to happen.

Greg ,if you apply the Governor's AO 359 & 360 that call for a 15% cut of all departments & removal of unnecessary regulations , how does the budget look then? The Governor's last call to make cuts to leave his office on just one high note, although has his 7 years in office compare also his first years budget (walkers budget) to what would forecast the 27' budget! Thanks for the comparison work you have done, very good eyeopener. I lived that 69 & earlier budget world, life was great for me just living in the Great State of Alaska. :) Liberty Ed

Hi Ed, that sounds like an interesting analysis to conduct. Might take me a little while, but I’ll take it on and write another article on it. Thanks for the comments, they are always appreciated. Greg.
